AS THEIR REWARD, TP 18U ‘A’ REP IS THE TBA’s REPRESENTATIVE AT THE 2025 BASEBALL ONTARIO (OBA) 18U ‘A’ REP PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY IN STRATFORD.

Beneath a hazy blanket of hot and humid skies, Toronto Playgrounds 18U ‘A’ prevailed 4-2 over the Bloordale 18U ‘A’ Bombers in a riveting 6½ inning proceeding this afternoon at Millwood Park to win the 2025 Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) 18U ‘A’ Rep Tournament Championship Game.

Bloordale drew first blood in the top half of the second inning when it staked itself to an early 2-0 advantage.

With K. Tanuwidjaja (23) on base following a hit by pitch, Shwas Shah (15) delivered a one out RBI double to centre field for Bloordale 18U ‘A’ that brought Tanuwidjaja home with the opening run of the game.

After Tommy Mayer (21) reached base on a TP error during Bombers next at bat, Shah took advantage of the faux pas to motor home with Bloordale’s second run.

In the bottom of the second frame, Toronto Playgrounds answered back in lickety-split fashion with a run that trimmed the gap to 2-1.

Following a one out single by Elliot Nelson (50), Liam Gallagher (74) would reach base on a Bloordale error, that also allowed Nelson to move over to second base.

After Nelson and Gallagher advanced respectively to third and second following a wild pitch by the Bombers, Devon Rogers (16) hit a RBI groundout that allowed Gallagher to hustle over to third base, and brought Nelson homeward with TP 18U ‘A”s first run of the game.

With carpe diem resolve, TP 18U ‘A’ scored a pair in the bottom portion of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead.

After a one out single by Guillermo Osario (14), Russell Lee (27) hit into a groundout that advanced Osario to second base.

With two outs, Freelon Wright (11) reached base on a Bloordale error. On the play, Wright would move over to second, and Osario blazed home with TP’s game tying run.

Licking his chops, Graham Meadowcroft (12) stepped up to the plate and delivered a grace under pressure RBI double down the left field line that brought Wright home with TP 18U ‘A”s go ahead run.

Toronto Playgrounds added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth frame to extend their plurality to 4-2.

Leading off the inning, William Parks (33) reached base on a Bombers error. Owen Paterson (51) would be inserted into the game as pinch runner for Parks.

Nelson followed with a single that advanced Patterson over to second base. Ben Platz (6) would be put into the game as a pinch runner for Nelson.

Following a walk by Gallagher that loaded the bases, Rogers delivered a RBI sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Paterson to score.

In a lionhearted, wire to wire complete game effort, TP 18U ‘A’ starter Eamon Mackenzie (7) stymied Bloordale 18U ‘A’ over seven sterling innings to lead his team to the TBA championship. Mackenzie surrendered two runs (only one earned), five hits, while allowing no walks and striking out three Bombers.

Throwing down the gauntlet, TP 18U ‘A’ starter Eamon Mackenzie (7) stymied the Bloordale 18U ‘A’ Bombers over seven sterling innings to lead his team to the TBA 18U ‘A’ championship game win. In a complete game effort, Mackenzie allowed only two runs (only one earned), five hits, while issuing no walks and striking out three Bombers.

With their victory over the Bombers, TP 18U ‘A’ is the TBA’s representative at the 2025 Baseball Ontario (OBA) Provincial 18U ‘A’ Rep Tournament in Stratford.

As they commenced their journey at the tourney on Friday afternoon, TP 18U ‘A’ were stung in a nail biting nine frame 3-2 extra innings defeat at the hands of the Scarborough 18U ‘A’ Stingers. 

With their championship dreams on the line, Toronto Playgrounds answered the clarion call on Saturday morning as they defeated the Royal York 18U ‘A’ Cardinals 11-2 in a six inning affair to earn their first TBA playoff win.

Holding onto a slender tenderloin 2-1 lead, TP 18U ‘A’ scored nine insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth frame to salt away the victory over the Cardinals.

In a nitty gritty rematch against the Scarborough 18U ‘A’ Stingers on Saturday afternoon, TP 18U ‘A’ prevailed 7-5 in a taut seven inning proceeding to capture their second TBA playoff game win.

Making the most of their opportunities in the first five innings, TP built up a 7-3 lead and fended off a late rally bid by the Stingers to take the victory.

With a 2-1 record, TP 18U ‘A’ punched its ticket into the championship round of the TBA tournament, with a showdown against the Bloordale 18U ‘A’ Bombers for all the marbles.

Earlier this morning, TP 18U ‘A’ took no prisoners as they upended the previously undefeated Bloordale 18U ‘A’ 8-2 in a seven inning affair to force a winner take all championship tête-à-tête.

The TPBA also wishes to commend all the TP 18U ‘A’ coaches, players, parents and family members for representing the core values of TPBA program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the weekend TBA tourney and throughout the long baseball season.
