Beneath a warm ceiling of sunny and hazy skies, the York 12U ‘A’ Riverdogs defeated the Toronto Playgrounds 12U ‘A’ 13-9 in a five inning 2026 Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) 12U ‘A’ Rep Game this morning at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Making the most of their opportunities, York 12U ‘A’ jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.

Following back to back singles by Lucas (32) and Jacob (11) to open the proceedings, Ethan (24) drew a walk that allowed the Riverdogs to load the bases.

With one out, Lucas and Jacob took advantage of an errant TP 2-5 pickoff throw to hustle home with a pair of runs for the Riverdogs. Ethan would advance to third base on the TP error.

With true grit, TP 12U ‘A’ starter Eli (8) chalked up three Nasty Canasta strikeouts to curtail the York 12U ‘A’ insurgency in the first frame.

In lickety-split fashion, Toronto Playgrounds replied with a two spot in the bottom of the first inning to deadlock the affair at 2-2.

After drawing a leadoff walk, Nolan (22) made like Bennie and the Jets as he swiped his way around the horn into optimal scoring position for TP 12U ‘A’ at third base.

Not to be outdone, York 12U ‘A’ quickly answered back with a pair in the top of the second inning to take a 4-2 advantage.

Exercising patience at the dish, Julian (23), Caleb (43) and Nico (31) garnered a trifecta combination of walks to begin the inning and load the bases for York 12U ‘A’.

Salivating at the Mandarin Buffet of possibilities that were on the menu…err, on base, Isaac (30) delivered a scintillating two RBI double that brought Julian and Caleb home with the Riverdogs go ahead runs.

GET ON THE DANCE FLOOR > Utilizing a sleek Jumpin’ Jack Flash manoeuvre, Riverdogs baserunner Caleb (43) dances around TP 12U ‘A’ catcher Nolan (22) to score a run that gave York 12U ‘A’ a 4-2 advantage in the second frame.

After Ben (98) and Wesley (18) drew back to back one out walks to keep the blowtorch on the TP defense, TP 12U ‘A’ starter Eli chalked up a pop out and a fly out to subdue the Riverdogs rebellion in the second frame.

With the wind in their sails, York 12U ‘A’ exploded for five runs in the top half of the third inning to widen their plurality to 9-2.

After drawing a leadoff walk, Ethan made like Bennie and the Jets as he brazenly swiped his way around the horn with a pair of derring-do steals that put him into optimal scoring position at third base.

With a runner on third, David (6) hit into a fielder’s choice, where TP 12U ‘A’ reliever Sidney (13) retrieved the ball and made a lightning throw to catcher Nolan, who tagged out hard charging Riverdogs baserunner Rayn on a chitty chitty bang bang 1-2 defensive gem at the dish to ring up the first out.

Cool as a cucumber, York 12U ‘A’ starter Branden sandwiched a pair of pop outs between a strikeout to subdue the TP 12U ‘A’ mutiny in the fourth frame.

Possessing a high degree of Cool Hand Luke wherewithal, York 12U ‘A’ starter Branden (17) stymied TP 12U ‘A’ over the course of four strong innings. Branden allowed four runs while racking up seven strikeouts against TP.

In the top portion of the fifth inning, York 12U ‘A’ tacked on an insurance run to solidify their lead at 13-4.

After Isaac stroked a leadoff single, Ben hit into a 4-3 groundout that moved Isaac over to second base.

Down 13-4, TP 12U ‘A’ donned their rally caps, as they came up for their last at bats in the bottom vector of the fifth inning, determined to change their fate in the time continuum.

After Oliver L (27) and Sam (36) garnered back to back one out walks, Oliver BE (23) stroked a RBI hit that advanced Sam to third, and brought Oliver L homeward with a TP run.

With the bases loaded, Liam (10) connects for a three RBI double during TP 12U ‘A”s five run rally in the fifth inning.

Finding the groove, York 12U ‘A’ reliever Wesley (18) chalked up two strikeouts and a groundout to extinguish TP 12U ‘A”s last gasp rally bid in the fifth frame and close the deal on the Riverdogs win.
