SHAKIN’ AND BAKIN’, THE RIVERDOGS FEND OFF A VALIANT TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS COMEBACK BID IN THE FINAL INNING TO PREVAIL FOR THE 2026 TBA 12U ‘A’ REP GAME VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS

Beneath a warm ceiling of sunny and hazy skies, the York 12U ‘A’ Riverdogs defeated the Toronto Playgrounds 12U ‘A’ 13-9 in a five inning 2026 Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) 12U ‘A’ Rep Game this morning at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Making the most of their opportunities, York 12U ‘A’ jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.

Following back to back singles by Lucas (32) and Jacob (11) to open the proceedings, Ethan (24) drew a walk that allowed the Riverdogs to load the bases.

With one out, Lucas and Jacob took advantage of an errant TP 2-5 pickoff throw to hustle home with a pair of runs for the Riverdogs. Ethan would advance to third base on the TP error.

With true grit, TP 12U ‘A’ starter Eli (8) chalked up three Nasty Canasta strikeouts to curtail the York 12U ‘A’ insurgency in the first frame.

In lickety-split fashion, Toronto Playgrounds replied with a two spot in the bottom of the first inning to deadlock the affair at 2-2.

After drawing a leadoff walk, Nolan (22) made like Bennie and the Jets as he swiped his way around the horn into optimal scoring position for TP 12U ‘A’ at third base.

Licking his chops, Liam (10) followed with a scintillating RBI double that brought Nolan home with TP’s first run of the game.

Seb (29) followed and drew a walk that put two TP runners on the dancefloor.

With two outs and runners on third and second base, Max (03) delivered a clutch RBI single that allowed Liam to blaze home and score TP 12U ‘A”s game tying run.

On the play, TP 12U ‘A”s potential go ahead run was denied when TP  baserunner Seb was called out at the plate for not sliding at home.

With pluck, York 12U ‘A’ starter Branden (17) rang up two strikeouts against TP in the first frame.

Not to be outdone, York 12U ‘A’ quickly answered back with a pair in the top of the second inning to take a 4-2 advantage.

Exercising patience at the dish, Julian (23), Caleb (43) and Nico (31) garnered a trifecta combination of walks to begin the inning and load the bases for York 12U ‘A’.

Salivating at the Mandarin Buffet of possibilities that were on the menu…err, on base, Isaac (30) delivered a scintillating two RBI double that brought Julian and Caleb home with the Riverdogs go ahead runs.

On the play, York 12U ‘A’ baserunner Nico is erased at third base on a pretty 2-5 defensive gem between TP 12U ‘A’ catcher Nolan and third baseman Liam.

After Ben (98) and Wesley (18) drew back to back one out walks to keep the blowtorch on the TP defense, TP 12U ‘A’ starter Eli chalked up a pop out and a fly out to subdue the Riverdogs rebellion in the second frame.

Taking care of business with 1-2-3 efficiency, York 12U ‘A’ starter Branden utilized two strikeouts and a pop out to send TP 12U ‘A’ packing in the bottom of the second inning.

With the wind in their sails, York 12U ‘A’ exploded for five runs in the top half of the third inning to widen their plurality to 9-2.

After drawing a leadoff walk, Ethan made like Bennie and the Jets as he brazenly swiped his way around the horn with a pair of derring-do steals that put him into optimal scoring position at third base.

Branden followed with a RBI hit that allowed Ethan to motor home with a Riverdogs run.

Following a theft of second base, Branden took advantage of a TP error on the play to hustle over over to third with a wild beached whale slide into the base.

After Rayn (42) drew a walk that put Riverdogs runners at third and first, TP 12U ‘A’ committed a grievous faux pas that brought Rayn over to third, and allowed Braeden to score a run for York.

With a runner on third, David (6) hit into a fielder’s choice, where TP 12U ‘A’ reliever Sidney (13) retrieved the ball and made a lightning throw to catcher Nolan, who tagged out hard charging Riverdogs baserunner Rayn on a chitty chitty bang bang 1-2 defensive gem at the dish to ring up the first out.

Following a theft of second by David, Caleb stroked a two out single that put two York 12U ‘A’ runners on base.

Nico (31) followed with a clutch RBI hit that advanced Caleb to second and brought David home with another Riverdogs run.

For the pièce de résistance, Isaac capped off York’s big inning with a two RBI single that allowed Caleb and Nico to come home to roost with two more Riverdogs runs.

In a lionhearted effort, TP 12U ‘A’ reliever Sidney tallied a strikeout and a pop out against York 12U ‘A’ in the third frame.

Refusing to throw in the towel, TP 12U ‘A’ threatened in the bottom half of the third inning following a single and stolen base by Myles (4).

With no inclination to pussyfoot around the mulberry bush, York 12U ‘A’ starter Branden rang up three searing strikeouts to vanquish the threat and keep TP off the scoring ledger in the third frame.

Taking the bull by the horns, York 12U ‘A’ added three doubloons to their treasure trove in the top of the fourth inning to increase their upper hand to 12-2.

Following a leadoff double, Lucas utilized his Grand Theft skills with aplomb to advance into scoring position at third base.

With two outs, Branden and Rayn garnered back to back walks to load the bases for the Riverdogs.

After TP 12U ‘A’ uncorked a wild pitch, York 12U ‘A’ baserunner Lucas dashed home from third base like a gazelle to score a run for the Riverdogs.

Following a walk by David that reloaded the bases, Julian and Caleb drew respective bases loaded RBI walks that allowed Branden and Rayn to come home with two more York runs.

In a stouthearted effort, TP 12U ‘A’ reliever Sam (36) chalked up a pop out and two strikeouts against the Riverdogs in the fourth frame.

With no desire to go quietly into the high noon sun, TP 12U ‘A’ scored a two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 12-4.

After a leadoff double by Nolan, Kai (2) stroked a two out single that put two ducks on the pond.

Seizing the moment, Lucas (11) followed with a clutch two RBI triple that allowed Nolan and Kai to score two a pair of TP runs.

Cool as a cucumber, York 12U ‘A’ starter Branden sandwiched a pair of pop outs between a strikeout to subdue the TP 12U ‘A’ mutiny in the fourth frame.

In the top portion of the fifth inning, York 12U ‘A’ tacked on an insurance run to solidify their lead at 13-4.

After Isaac stroked a leadoff single, Ben hit into a 4-3 groundout that moved Isaac over to second base. 

 

Wesley followed with a succinct one out RBI hit that brought Wesley homeward with a Riverdogs run.

With spunk, TP 12U ‘A’ reliever Oliver BE (23) reeled off a groundout, line out and a strikeout to extinguish the Riverdogs coup d’état in the fifth frame.

Down 13-4, TP 12U ‘A’ donned their rally caps, as they came up for their last at bats in the bottom vector of the fifth inning, determined to change their fate in the time continuum.

After Oliver L (27) and Sam (36) garnered back to back one out walks, Oliver BE (23) stroked a RBI hit that advanced Sam to third, and brought Oliver L homeward with a TP run.

Following a two out walk by Sidney that loaded the bases, Nolan drew a bases loaded RBI walk that allowed Sam to shuffle home with another TP run.

With the bases still jammed tighter than rush hour traffic on Lakeshore Boulevard, Liam delivered a clutch bases clearing three RBI double that brought Oliver BE, Sidney and Nolan home to roost with three tasty TP 12U ‘A’ runs that trimmed the shortfall to four.

Shaken, but not stirred, York 12U ‘A’ reliever Wesley found his mojo as he rang up two strikeouts and a groundout to bring the curtain down on TP 12U ‘A”s valiant last gasp rally bid and seal the deal on the Riverdogs hard fought victory.
