Toronto Playgrounds Select Baseball
Toronto Playgrounds offers Select baseball across several age divisions and is committed to growing opportunities for our players. Our goal is to provide at least one Select team in each eligible age group whenever possible. The number of Select teams offered each season is determined by the TP Board of Directors. Select teams compete in the Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA), with all home games and most in-season practices taking place at Christie Pits.
About Select Baseball
Select baseball is a higher level of play than House League, but a step below Rep baseball.
The program is designed for players who enjoy House League and are looking for additional development and more baseball throughout the season.
Players must earn a spot on a Select team through the annual tryout process.
House League Commitment
Select players are required to participate in House League.
This includes attending House League games and practices and acting as positive role models for teammates.
You can find the House League game and practice expectations outlined in the House League section of our website.
Season Timeline
The Select season begins in early May and concludes with playoffs in mid-August.
Teams that win their playoffs - or, in some cases, finish second - advance to the Provincial Championships that can take place any time from Late August - Labour Day weekend.
Games, Practices & Travel
Select players typically play:
- One Select game per week within their league loop, in addition to their House League game.
Toronto Playgrounds Select teams compete in the Toronto West Loop (Etobicoke Baseball Association – EBA) against clubs such as:
- Annette
- Bloordale
- Martingrove
- Royal York
- York
Travel time to games is typically 45 minutes to one hour.
Games are scheduled on the same day each week and rotate between home and away.
Select teams usually practice once per week, and occasionally twice, in addition to House League commitments.
Tournaments & Coaching
Select teams generally participate in two to three weekend tournaments during the season.
All Toronto Playgrounds Select teams are coached by dedicated volunteer coaches.
Multi Sport Athletes
Toronto Playgrounds recognizes that many Select players participate in multiple sports and encourages this balanced approach to athletic development. Players are expected to make a strong commitment to both their Select and House League teams throughout the season. While some flexibility is understood, consistent attendance at games and practices is important for player development and team success. Families should be prepared for the time commitment involved, with attendance expectations set by the Head Coach and communicated clearly at the start of the season.
