IN A THRILLER, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS STAGE A DRAMATIC COMEBACK IN THE FINAL INNING TO EKE OUT A ‘POOL A’ ROUND ROBIN GAME VICTORY OVER THE TIGERS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Under a serene canopy of blue and sunny skies, TP 11U ‘A’ Rep edged the Peterborough 11U ‘A’ Rep Tigers 5-4 in a nail biting six inning 2025 Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) 11U & Under Tournament Round Robin Game this afternoon at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

In the top of the first inning, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ began the proceedings with a two out single by Fynn (26).

With two outs, TP 11U ‘A’ first baseman Cordell (44) tags out Peterborough 11U ‘A’ baserunner Fynn (26) on a nifty 1-3 pickoff play to end the Tigers threat in the first frame.

However, the early Tigers threat was neutralized in lickety-split fashion when TP 11U ‘A’ starter Whit (16) utilized his guile by combining with first baseman Cordell (44) on a cunning 1-3 pickoff that erased Fynn for the third out.

Along with the successful pickoff move, Whit also used a strikeout and a groundout to set down Peterborough in 1-2-3 fashion in the first frame.

Returning the favor, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ starter Nolan (99) dispatched the TP 11U ‘A’ batting order with 1-2-3 efficiency in the bottom portion of the first inning with a fly out, groundout and a strikeout that kept the game scoreless.

Kicking it up a notch, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ threatened in the top half of the second inning.

After a leadoff single by Jamieson (25), Beau (28 and Brett (11) followed with back to back walks to load the bases for the Tigers.

Dealing with a bases loaded pickle initiated by the Tigers, TP 11U ‘A’ Head Coach Sother Edouard (7) holds a meeting at the pitching mound to discuss strategy with his players in the top of the second inning.

With no outs and mired in a sticky wicket, TP 11U ‘A’ starter Whit dug deep into his bag of tricks to mow down the next three Peterborough batters with three electrifying strikeouts to vanquish the threat and leave the bases loaded.

With no outs, TP 11U ‘A’ starter Whit (16) chalked up three consecutive strikeouts to end a bases loaded threat by Peterborough 11U ‘A’ in the top of the second inning. In a stouthearted effort, Whit allowed three earned runs, while striking out four Tigers over the course of two innings.

After stepping into the batter’s box, Arlo (13) cranked a wooly mammoth leadoff home run blast to give TP a 1-0 advantage.

Unfazed, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ starter Nolan tallied a fly out and groundout to quell the TP insurgency in the second frame.

Nolan was also the beneficiary of a nice defensive play from his D during the inning. After stroking a single, TP 11U ‘A’ baserunner Cordell made a ballsy attempt to steal second base. However, Tigers catcher Jamieson made a lightning throw to shortstop Boyd (8), who adroitly tagged out Cordell on pretty 2-6 play for the first out of the inning.

Not to be outdone, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ quickly answered back with a four spot in the top of the third frame to take a 4-1 lead.

Exercising patience at the dish, Jackson (17), Alder (6) and Casey (32) led off the inning with three consecutive walks to load the bases for the Tigers.

Max (9) followed by hitting into a fielder’s choice that erased Casey at second base,  advanced Alder over to third base, and brought Jackson home with the Tigers tying run.

Down 1-0 and with the bases loaded, Max (9) hits into a fielder’s choice to bring home Peterborough 11U ‘A’s game tying run in the top half of the third inning.

With runners on third and second, Jamieson (25) delivers a grace under pressure two out two RBI double to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead in the third frame.

Subsequently, with two outs and Peterborough runners at third and second base, Jamieson delivered a clutch two RBI double that allowed Alder and Max to motor home with the Tigers go ahead runs.

For the icing on the cake, Beau followed with a RBI single that brought Jamieson homeward with another Peterborough run.

For the pièce de résistance, Beau (28) strokes a RBI single to cap off the Tigers four run rally in the third frame.

After entering the fray from the bullpen, TP 11U ‘A’ reliever Milo (24) tallied a groundout and pop out to end the Tigers uprising in the third frame.

Wheeling and dealing, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ starter Nolan stymied TP 11U ‘A’ in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the third inning with two succulent strikeouts and a pop out back to the mound.

Battling the bright glare of the high noon sun, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ starter Nolan (99) reels in an eight mile high pop up off the bat of TP 11U ‘A’ batter Rowan (23) for the third out in the bottom of the third inning.

Peterborough 11U ‘A’ threatened again in the top portion of the fourth inning.

After drawing a leadoff walk, Tigers baserunner Brett (11) made like Bennie and the Jets as he stole his way around the horn into optimal scoring position at third base.

Following a leadoff walk, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ baserunner Brett (11) rattled the TP 11U ‘A’ defense with a pair of derring-do steals in the top half of the fourth inning that moved him into scoring position at third base.

Throwing down the gauntlet, TP 11U ‘A’ reliever Milo reeled off three scintillating strikeouts to extinguish the Peterborough sedition in the third frame.

Taking umbrage at their predicament, TP clawed back with a run in the bottom of the fourth frame to trail 4-2.

With ferocity, Milo led off the inning with a majestic solo home home run shot that trimmed the shortfall to two.

With his eye on the prize, Milo (24) delivers a Say Hey solo home run blast for TP 11U ‘A’ in the bottom of the fourth inning that trimmed the gap to two.

Running with a full head of steam from first base, TP 11U ‘A’ Kaden (0) slides safely into third base on Paul’s (77) groundout in the fourth frame.

Following Milo’s heroics with a well earned walk, Kaden (0) turned on the afterburners as he blazed around the horn and into scoring position at third base on Paul’s (77) 4-3 groundout.

Shaken, but not stirred, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ starter Nolan chalked up two strikeouts to diffuse the TP 11U ‘A’ rally bid in the fourth frame.

With true grit, Peterborough 11U ‘A’ starter Nolan (99) pitched 4 1/3 stellar innings against TP 11U ‘A’. Nolan surrendered only three earned runs, while striking out five TP batters.

Peterborough kept the heat on TP in the top of the fifth inning following a single by Casey. 

With no inclination to dance around the mulberry bush, TP 11U ‘A’ reliever Milo racked up two strikeouts and a pop out to terminate the Tigers revolt in the fifth frame.

Exhibiting never say die fortitude, TP 11U ‘A’ scored a run in the bottom half of the fifth to close the gap to 4-3.

Following a leadoff walk and stolen base by Cordell, Benji (15) connected for a RBI single that allowed Cordell to hustle home with a TP run that cut the deficit to one.

In a masterful outing, TP 11U ‘A’ reliever Milo (24) stymied the Peterborough 11U ‘A’ batting order over the course of 3 1/3 innings of stellar relief that allowed his team to rally back from a 4-1 deficit for the victory. Milo surrendered only one run, while striking out seven Tigers.

Trailing 4-3 and with their eye on the prize, TP 11U ‘A’ came up for their final at bats in the bottom portion of the sixth frame determined to usurp Peterborough 11U ‘A’.

After a leadoff single, Milo quickly utilized his Grand Theft chops to get into scoring position at second base.

As the potential tying run, TP 11U ‘A’ baserunner Milo (24) slides by Peterborough 11U ‘A’ shortstop Fynn (26) for a deft theft of second base in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With no outs and two ducks on the pond, Paul (77) hits into a fielder’s choice that allows TP 11U ‘A’ to score its game tying run in the sixth frame.
